If you are a typical smoker, you started smoking when you were in your teens. It was the in thing to do. Everyone else was trying it; smoking was “cool,” and even your parents probably smoked. Then all of the sudden you were “hooked.”

- Cigarettes contain numerous carcinogenic (cancer-causing) chemical compounds, including formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, arsenic, DDT, carbon monoxide, tar, and the drug nicotine.
- According to Canada pharmacy, nicotine is highly addictive. Smoke containing nicotine is inhaled into the lungs and the nicotine reaches your brain in just six seconds. Nicotine, in small doses acts as a stimulant to the brain and in large doses, it is a lethal poison. Nicotine in the blood stream acts to make the smoker feel calm.
- As a cigarette is smoked, the amount of tar inhaled into the lungs increases and the last puff contains more than twice as much tar as the first puff. Seventy to ninety percent of the chemicals inhaled in cigarette smoke stay in the lungs. So, the more you inhale, the greater the damage to your lungs.
